The Rain Clouds (Paris)

Low grey clouds shoulder across the sky above Paris, their undersides bruised violet where the last light fails. Robert Henri catches the city at that held breath before rain. Oil paint goes on in broad, loaded strokes, slate and pewter dragged wet into wet until every edge softens like vapor. Below, chimney stacks and zinc rooftops catch a thin smear of ochre where light breaks through at the horizon.
