Masts and hulls dissolve into a pale North African sky in The Port of Algiers with Haze by Albert Marquet. Ships rest at their moorings while the whole harbor drifts toward silver. Whitewashed buildings climb behind the quay, flattened to quiet geometry. The water carries milky greys and soft blues, broken only by dark reflections of masts and the low silhouettes of moored vessels. Marquet thins his oil paint to a veil, letting atmosphere do the work of drawing. No bright sail, no figure, just the hush of a working port breathing under heat haze.
