The Pont de Vernon

Water folds beneath the Pont de Vernon while a small figure crosses, painted in Pierre Bonnard loose, luminous hand. The bridge spans the Seine at a shallow diagonal, its arches swallowed in reflection. Bonnnard builds the scene from quick strokes of mauve, moss green, and watery blue, letting sky and river bleed together. Trees lean over the parapet, their foliage breaking into dabs of ochre and rose where late light lands. Suited to a study, hallway, or reading nook where a quiet river crossing can hold the eye.
