The Open Window

An open window fills the canvas, its casement flung wide onto a garden ablaze with vermilion and lemon yellow blossoms. Pierre Bonnard painted this interior threshold as a burst of pure color, where inside and outside dissolve into one luminous field. Beyond the sill, foliage presses close in saturated greens and hot pinks, while dappled light rakes across the window frame in quick, tilted strokes of blue and cream. A narrow band of patterned wallpaper anchors the foreground, its decorative rhythm playing against the wild garden beyond. Suited to a sunlit breakfast room, a conservatory corner, or any space that faces the garden.
