The Little Bay, Port Vendres

A shallow curve of blue harbour sits cupped between dry golden hills, small boats drawn up along the quay in orderly dark rows. Charles Rennie Mackintosh titled the scene The Little Bay, Port Vendres. Washes of cobalt and turquoise hold the water flat and still, while ochre slopes rise in clean geometric planes above terracotta roofs. Thin, certain contour lines trace each mast, breakwater and hillside, the same disciplined hand that shaped Glasgow Style design turned loose on southern light. Coastal light like this belongs in a calm reading nook or a hallway that needs quiet depth, anywhere with plain plaster walls and morning sun.
