The Lake Leman, Effect of the Evening

Last light lies across Lake Leman in long horizontal bands, and Felix Vallotton records the evening effect in rose, apricot, and deep violet, sky and water nearly merging at the horizon. Reflections cross the water as flat ribbons of color, each stripe a single solid tone rather than a shimmer. A dark treeline closes the near shore, cut hard against the glow, and low hills beyond hold a bruised purple. Shapes stay simplified, planes of color doing all the work. It suits a study or dining room, anywhere the horizontal sweep of water and that dusk palette can quiet an entire evening around them.
