A boy climbs beyond reach into a snow-heavy spruce while a spotted hunter paces the drifts below. The Lair of the Lynx by Akseli Gallen-Kallela catches the standoff one heartbeat before it breaks. Broad, loaded strokes build the scene: blue-shadowed snow, trunks in raw umber, a fur-trimmed figure pressed against the dark of a Finnish winter wood. Thick slabs of white sit on every bough. Below, tufted ears and a dappled flank mark the wildcat, tail low, utterly patient.
