The Kiss

Two bodies fuse into a single rectangular block of pale limestone, the compressed embrace Constantin Brâncuși titled The Kiss. Lips meet along one narrow vertical seam; four arms lock into one encircling band. Carved straight into the stone with no preliminary modeling, both figures keep their quarry-cut edges. Huge almond eyes stare level past one another, hair drops in one long incised panel, and shared drapery reduces to shallow planes that hold light along every ridge. An entryway or reading nook suits its quiet geometry; the pale grey form settles against plain plaster and dark wood, needing little else in the room.
