The Kiss

Two figures fuse into one compact block of pale limestone, lips meeting at the center seam, the embrace Constantin Brâncuși titled The Kiss. Nothing is carved away that the couple does not need. Both faces wear the same enormous incised eyes, twin rings set close together, and the same long hair falling in parallel grooves until the strands merge. One arm crosses to the opposite shoulder, binding the pair into a solid rectangle, the chisel texture left raw so light catches every facet. A quiet study or an entryway suits it: the squared silhouette reads across the room, and the closed eyes reward a slow look at close range.
