The House of Misia Sert

A villa facade dissolves into violet shadow and buttery lamplight in Pierre Bonnard painting The House of Misia Sert. Windows glow amber against deep plum walls, ivy climbing the rendered surface in loose dabs. Bonnard built the scene from small touches of chrome yellow, madder red, and ultramarine, each brushstroke kept visible so the architecture shimmers rather than sits still. Warm light spills from the ground-floor panes onto gravel and grass. The garden presses close, foliage rendered in bruised greens that swallow the path.
