The Harbour at St. Jean Cap Ferrat

Moored hulls bob in a sheltered Mediterranean cove on the Cap Ferrat coast. Winston Churchill painted this harbour scene with the direct, unhurried brush of an amateur who took his hobby seriously. Olive greens and cobalt blues carry the water, while whitewashed villas climb the terraced hillside above the quay. Sunlight strikes mast tops and calm shallows in short, confident strokes of cream and gold. The Riviera horizon sits high, pressing light onto the water.
