The Green Wave, Vorhor

Green sea swell, full and rounded, breaks toward the shore at Vorhor. Georges Lacombe carved this Breton seascape from color itself, building the water in layered relief so each crest casts its own shadow. Up close the surface reads almost sculptural: deep viridian ridges, moss-dark troughs, a pale foam line where wave meets land. The green shifts tone by tone, from bottle-glass dark to a yellowed jade near the horizon, and the rhythm of the carving gives the swell a slow, rolling movement no flat brushwork could. Coastal tones like these settle naturally into a reading room or a stairwell bathed in afternoon light.
