The Gate of Kiss from the Targu Jiu Ensemble

Two eyes meet across a single carved line, the kiss pared down to bare geometry. Constantin Brancusi set the Gate of Kiss at Targu Jiu as the threshold of his sculptural ensemble. Honey-cream travertine carries the motif in a running frieze along the lintel, paired forms repeated until pattern becomes rhythm. Rain has darkened the stone toward ochre at the edges, and chisel marks still ride the surface. Plain squared pillars hold the whole weight without ornament. Place it in an entryway or along a stair landing, wherever a doorway already frames a passage, and let the gate greet every crossing.
