Flakes settle across the roof of a small house painted deep cerulean, and Pyotr Konchalovsky lays the scene down with broad, unhesitating strokes. He titled it The first snow, The blue cottage. Paint rides thick on the roofline and fence rails, so the white reads as substance rather than weather. Timber walls deepen toward teal where shadow falls, bare branches cross a pearl grey sky, and the yard lies unmarked, waiting for a footstep. One window glows dull amber. In a study or reading nook it cools the room the way the season cools the fields, a quiet counterweight to lamplight and books.
