Dusk lowers over a wide lake in The Evening. Landscape with a Lake by the Russian painter Pyotr Konchalovsky. Still water holds the last warm light of day against darkening trees. Ochre and rose wash the sky while the water answers in deep violet and slate, broken by short horizontal strokes of reflected gold. Trees mass along the far bank in heavy impasto, their crowns nearly black, and the loaded brushwork of oil paint stays visible across every inch. A study or hallway facing west suits it well; the quiet dusk palette reads calmly in lamplight and gives an evening room its own settled rhythm.
