The Crimean Landscape

Jagged limestone crags stack across the middle distance, their pale faces catching a low southern light. Konstantin Bogaevsky built The Crimean landscape from that raw terrain, the rocky spine of the peninsula rendered in cool mineral greys and warm sunstruck ochre. Look closely and the brushwork does the geology for you: dry, stippled strokes describe weathered stone, while a deeper blue shadow pools in every fold of the ridge. Thin air, hard edges, a sky washed nearly white at the horizon and deepening overhead. Vegetation clings sparsely to the slopes, small dark accents against all that sun-bleached rock. A study, a hallway, any room with good daylight will hold it well.
