The Cathedral

Gothic spires rise through a haze of coastal light in The Cathedral, a canvas from Californian impressionist Guy Rose. Mauve shadow climbs the stone facade while cream buttresses catch the sun. Rose softens every edge, letting architecture dissolve into atmosphere the way French cathedrals did for his Giverny-era teachers. Pearled grays, lilac, and warm ochre carry the whole composition.
