The Blue Pool near Mt. Whitney

Alpine meltwater settles into a granite bowl, the surface a deep cobalt that pales to turquoise over sunken stones. Guy Rose named this Sierra tarn The Blue Pool near Mt. Whitney. His brush breaks the scene into quick touches: lavender shadow sliding across bare slabs, spruce green stitched along the shoreline, one broad peak carrying snow above the tree line. Cold water blue gives way to sun-warmed granite in a few strokes, Californian impressionism practiced at altitude. A stair landing or a reading nook with pale plaster and honeyed timber would let all that alpine blue set the temperature of the room.
