The Blue House

A small house sits low behind its garden fence, every clapboard shifted toward violet where afternoon shadow slides across it. In The Blue House, Guy Rose treats an ordinary dwelling as an exercise in light. Cobalt and cerulean go on in broken strokes, each dab distinct up close and blending only at a distance, the classic handling of American impressionism. Warm ochre paths and sun-struck foliage push against those cool surfaces, and overhead the sky settles into a pale milky wash.
