About this work

The Bay, Nova Scotia

Grey Atlantic water heaves under a pale sky as fishing boats tug at their moorings in The Bay, Nova Scotia, a marine subject painted by George Luks of the Ashcan School. Oil lies heavy on the surface here. Luks chops slate and pewter blue into short, loaded strokes, then breaks white impasto along each hull and against the dark headland. The horizon sits low, so weather takes over most of the picture, scumbled cloud pressing down on choppy water. Hang it where light stays indirect: a study with worn leather chairs and brass lamps, or a hallway that needs the cold salt air of a northern shore.

Information

Frequently asked

Yes — it ships fully framed and assembled, with hanging hardware already fitted to the back.

Wipe the front gently with a soft, dry cloth and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Pick the size that suits your wall and furniture. If you are unsure between two, the larger one usually looks better than expected.

Each piece is made to order and shipped free with tracking, usually within a couple of weeks depending on your location. See our shipping policy for details.

Usually not, but international orders can occasionally be subject to local import fees set by your country. Anything like that is set by customs, not by us.

As each piece is made to order, we do not accept change-of-mind returns. If it arrives damaged or faulty, email support@auvrique.com within 7 days and we will put it right. See our refund policy.
