The Auxerre Cathedral

Gothic pinnacles and flying buttresses of Auxerre Cathedral rise above the rooftops, rendered in the flickering brushwork that made Gustave Loiseau a master of the French townscape. Stone turns rose and grey under a shifting sky. Loiseau enlivens the surface with small crosses of paint, a signature lattice that sets the cathedral masonry vibrating against pale blue and cream. Shadows pool in the portal while sunlight catches the upper tracery. Suits a study, hallway, or reading nook where architectural subjects feel at home.
