The Almond Tree in Blossom

Almond blossom fills the frame, its pale petals scattered across branches that Bonnard painted with restless, searching color. The Almond Tree in Blossom belongs to his late garden visions, where nature is never observed but reinvented through pigment. Lavender, rose, and lemon yellows jostle within the flowering canopy while the trunk itself leans in violet and warm sienna. Bonnard built these surfaces in layered oil strokes, so the blossom reads almost as confetti suspended over the ground. Light seems to come from everywhere at once. A sunroom or garden-facing bedroom suits it best, somewhere morning brightness can meet the flowering branches halfway.
