Temple of Myrrh Bearers

White walls of a village church climb toward a green onion dome, bare birches standing close around it. Temple of Myrrh Bearers by Pyotr Konchalovsky catches the building on a clear, cold morning. Thick slabs of whitewash sit on the surface, sunlit plaster reading almost sculptural against a hard blue sky. Shadows go violet across the fence posts, the bell tower narrows like a column, and raw ochre grass breaks through crusts of melting snow. It suits a hallway or reading nook, anywhere a quiet view of pale architecture and leafless trees can slow a morning down.
