Tempe-jal-tzen-baykin (City of Mobster Ja Lama)

Tempe-jal-tzen-baykin, the city of mobster Ja Lama, gathers its walls beneath a Nicholas Roerich sky. Low flat rooftops climb a slope, the whole settlement pressed together like stones swept downhill by wind. Tempera pigment, laid thin and matte, gives the architecture its chalky warmth. Violet shadow pools between the buildings while the distant ridgeline burns a hard orange against cold air. Roerich outlines each roofline with a sure, dark contour, and the Mongolian plateau beyond sits flattened into bands of blue and umber, empty of everything but distance. A desert fortress for a study or library, where maps and old travel journals are kept close.
