Tatar Inn

Horses wait outside the doorway while travelers crowd the covered entrance of the Tatar Inn, a scene Constantin Artachino paints with loose, sunlit brushwork. Whitewashed walls lean under terracotta roofs. Figures in dark coats and pale sashes trade loads, gossip, and shadow in roughly equal measure. The ochre ground shows through everywhere, warming the dust of the courtyard. Smoke-blue sky presses down on the low buildings, and a wooden cart juts into the frame from one side.
