Table of Silence

Twelve hourglass stools stand in a perfect ring around a broad stone disc, each one pinched at the waist like a figure at rest. Constantin Brâncuși named the arrangement Table of Silence. The travertine reads pale beige and grey, its surface pitted and grainy like a millstone worn smooth by weather. Low to the ground, the ensemble turns on circular geometry: the disc, the ring, the repeated hourglass silhouettes catching shadow along their curves. A calm dining room or entryway suits it best, somewhere a single strong form can hold the light and leave the rest of the room quiet.
