Swimming Pool at Chartwell

Blue water fills the basin at Chartwell, painted by Winston Churchill in loose, sunlit strokes. The pool sits still among garden greenery, its surface catching light in short dabs of pale cyan and white. Charges of cobalt and turquoise carry the water, while hedges and lawn press in around the tiled edge in deeper greens. The brushwork is quick and confident, the kind Churchill favored on weekends at his Kent home, where paint stood beside politics. Shadows from unseen trees fall across one corner of the pool, cooling the whole scene. A natural fit for a sunroom, garden-facing hallway, or bathroom where water and greenery set the mood.
