Swash

White water breaks across the lower third of the image, foam curling in loose, wet strokes over stone-blue shallows. Mahokian calls it simply Swash, the name mariners give the surge a wave leaves behind on sand. The sea itself holds most of the pigment: cold slate green deepening toward the horizon, a band of hazy grey where water and sky dissolve into each other. Foam reads as dragged white and pale ointment green, worked fast while the brush still carried liquid. No shore figures, no boats, nothing to scale the swell against, so the swell owns the whole frame. Hang it where you want the sound of surf in the room: a stairwell landing, a hallway that needs a window, a study facing north light.
