Sunset over Malana

Malana village sits low in the valley while the sky above it burns. Sunset over Malana captures Nicholas Roerich at his Himalayan best, the last light pooled across ridgelines like molten copper. Roerich worked here in his tempera manner, laying down thin, matte layers so the color seems breathed onto the surface rather than brushed. Deep violets and burnt rose climb the slopes, the peaks catch one final stripe of salmon, and the dark masses of deodar forest hold the valley floor in near-black silhouette. Small dwellings huddle below, barely more than pale flecks against the shadow. A reading nook, a quiet study, any room where evening light lingers will meet this scene as an equal.
