Sunset

The sun sinks as a burning disc above dark water, and Ciurlionis lets the whole sky answer it in bands of amber, crimson, and smoke. Sunset belongs to the Lithuanian symbolist vision of nature as music made visible. Look closely and the composition is built from horizontal color fields stacked like organ pipes: molten orange at the horizon, then violet, then a deep blue that swallows the upper frame. Thin brushwork pulls the glow downward, laying long reflections across the sea in broken strokes of gold and rose. It suits a dim hallway or a study where evening light can meet it halfway.
