Sunset

Low sun dissolves into a haze of orange and crimson, its glow stretched thin across a darkening stretch of water. Akseli Gallen-Kallela builds the scene from broad, loaded brushstrokes, sky and lake nearly merging where the horizon burns hottest. Deep blue shadow pools in the foreground, broken only by a few dark reeds cutting the reflection. The warm light carries a northern chill in it, that brief Nordic blaze before night settles.
