Sunrise

Light climbs a darkened slope in Sunrise, a work by Fujishima Takeji where daybreak arrives over ridgeline before anything below has stirred. The horizon burns in apron orange and pale lemon, fading upward through rose into a cold grey sky. Brushwork in oil sits thick along the suns halo, thin and dry at the shadowed foreground, so the ground reads almost grainy against that glowing band. A quiet study or a north-facing bedroom suits it well, anywhere morning light or its promise belongs on the wall.
