Sunrise, Cape Daio

Sun bursts over Cape Daio, its headland cut in hard silhouette against a sky washed gold and rose. Fujishima Takeji renders the moment where night gives way to first light along the rocky coast of the Inland Sea. Long swells carry violet shadow in the foreground, their crests catching thin ribbons of orange where the sun touches water. The headland itself stays nearly black, a mass of layered brushwork anchoring the glowing horizon. Above, clouds streak horizontally, pale lemon near the sun and cooling to gray mauve at the upper edge. A natural fit above a console in an entryway, or across from a window in a morning-lit living room where its colors answer the light.
