Summer Twilight. Pond

Lilac light gathers above the pond as dusk settles between the trees, the hour Konstantin Somov fixed in Summer Twilight. Pond, where water remembers every color of the sky. Mauve and apricot reflections slide across the surface, broken where a fish has risen. Dense shrubbery shuts out the far bank, pigment layered until the green reads black, and a figure in pale dress waits at the edge, her skirt the brightest note in view. A reading room or bedroom corner in low lamplight suits it well; the muted palette quiets a space the way evening quiets a garden.
