Summer Day

A field of wheat bends under noon heat, every stalk rendered in short, loaded strokes of ochre and burnt gold. Nicolae Vermont fills the canvas edge to edge with ripened grain, no fence, no figure, only the crop swaying in a slow breath of wind. Pale light sits on the seed heads. Deep shadow pools in the furrows below. A haze of warm haze softens the far edge of the field, where land and sky dissolve into one shimmering line. Heat radiates off the surface. This bucolic Romanian landscape brings harvest season into a sunroom, a hallway, or above a sideboard in a country dining room.
