Study to the Resurrection

Bodies climb out of churned earth, lifted faces catching cold light from above. Albin Egger-Lienz built the Resurrection around such figures, and the study keeps every arm raw, every gesture still in motion. Umber and grey-green washes carry the mass of the forms; bone-white highlights trace forearms, knuckles, and a brow breaking free of soil. Loose hatching anchors the ground, open brushwork leaves limbs half resolved, and the whole surface keeps the urgency of a hand still deciding. Sombre weight suits a library or a stairwell landing, anywhere with low lamplight, plain plaster walls, and room for a crowd of rising figures to breathe.
