About this work

Study to Building a City

Builders on scaffolding raise stone walls against a hilltop horizon, a study Nicholas Roerich made while planning Building a City. Labor and landscape share the frame. Ochre and umber dominate the terrain, with distant structures reduced to small blocks of violet and grey. Confident brushwork lays out each rampart and roofline, while the figure groups read as swift, sure strokes of paint. The sky stays pale and open, leaving the construction itself to carry the weight. A study or hallway gains a sense of purpose from an image of men building toward something larger than themselves.

Frequently asked

Yes. It arrives stretched over a solid wood frame, ready to hang, with the hanging hardware included.

Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Pick the size that suits your wall and furniture. If you are unsure between two, the larger one usually looks better than expected.

Each piece is made to order and shipped free with tracking, usually within a couple of weeks depending on your location. See our shipping policy for details.

Usually not, but international orders can occasionally be subject to local import fees set by your country. Anything like that is set by customs, not by us.

As each piece is made to order, we do not accept change-of-mind returns. If it arrives damaged or faulty, email support@auvrique.com within 7 days and we will put it right. See our refund policy.
