Study

Single loaded strokes lay down leafless branches against a pale ground, each mark placed without correction. Study, by Pyotr Konchalovsky, keeps the pace visible: a tree blocked in fast, left unfinished on purpose. Oil sits thick on the surface, ridged where the bristles dragged. The trunk runs in umber and grey, wet over a dry underlayer, while the sky behind stays one broad pass of cool white. Raw priming shows at the corners, evidence of haste.
