Study from Spoleto, Italy

Terracotta roofs tumble down a steep hillside in Study from Spoleto, Italy, a sunlit travel sketch by Swedish painter Anna Katarina Boberg made far from her northern home. Ochre and rose masonry drink the midday glare while a square bell tower holds the ridge line. Brushwork stays quick and open, shadows pooling violet beneath arcade arches, cypress darks anchoring the foreground, olive terraces fading toward a bleached Umbrian sky. Burnt oranges and dusty greens suit a hallway or reading corner, where the warm stone palette sits easily beside linen, clay pottery, and aged wood.
