A model stage set dominates the studio in this Edouard Vuillard work, Studio Interior, Model for the Scenery of La Lepreuse. Canvas panels lean against walls, brushes and pots crowd a table, and the theater intrudes on domestic space. Vuillard builds the room from muted browns, dusty greens, and deep umber shadows, his brush short and packed. The scenery panels carry pale washes, half-finished figures suggested in thin strokes.
