Stronghold of Tibet

Stone walls of a Tibetan dzong climb a barren ridge, their squared bulk painted in slate and violet shadow. Stronghold of Tibet captures Nicholas Roerich at his most architectural. Cold ultramarine sky presses down on the fortified towers while pale snow dusts the higher summits behind. Thin tempera layers leave the pigment matte and chalky, letting ochre earth and blue shadow sit side by side without blending. Windows read as dark slits, the mountain passes as silent as the stronghold itself. A reading room or library shelf suits this mood, anywhere high altitude silence can settle over a quiet corner.
