Street in Tbilisi

A sun-baked Tbilisi street climbs between carved wooden balconies in Eugene Lanceray's drawing. Lattice overhangs jut over the lane, casting slatted shadow across plaster walls gone ochre and dust grey. Everywhere the eye catches detail: tiled roofs stepping downhill, a figure paused mid-passage, laundry drying on a jutting pole, drainpipes patched and bent. Lanceray records the Caucasian city with an architect's hand, crosshatching piling up in doorways and stairwells until the light itself seems to have texture. Suited to a study, hallway, or reading nook, Street in Tbilisi brings the crowded warmth of an old Caucasian thoroughfare into a quieter room.
