Street from Bretania

A narrow street opens ahead, cobbled and slightly damp, the way Breton lanes look after morning rain. Stefan Popescu paints Street from Bretania with a loose, confident hand, letting stone and sky carry the weight of the scene. Grey slate roofs press down low on both sides, their ridgelines uneven, patched, alive with weather. Walls lean a little, plastered in bone white and raw umber, stained where shutters once hung. Light falls from behind cloud, so shadows stay soft and the cobbles read as warm grey, rose, and slate blue rather than flat brown. A laundry line, a bicycle leaning against stone, a cat or a shadow mid distance, small human traces hold the eye. Suited to a hallway or study, where a quiet street scene rewards long, unhurried looking.
