Still Life with Samovar Pipe

A squat brass samovar and a long pipe claim the tabletop in Still Life with Samovar Pipe, Pyotr Konchalovsky building the scene with thick, deliberate strokes of paint. Ochre and umber carry the metal sheen, each highlight laid on thick enough to catch real light. A dark green bottle, a crumpled white cloth and a shallow bowl of fruit crowd the brass, while the background sinks into deep blue. The pipe rests at an angle, its bowl dark with use. A kitchen with open shelving suits it, or a study lined in dark wood where old brass already sits on the sideboard.
