Still Life with Roses, Jasmine and Asparagus

Blush and crimson blooms crowd a pewter jug, white star sprays thread between the stems, and pale green spears lie across the cloth. Konchalovsky called it simply, still life with roses, jasmine and asparagus. Paint sits thick on the surface, dragged in single loaded strokes. Every petal carries a ridge of pigment. Cool sage green cuts against flesh pinks, crumpled linen catches the light in unblended passes, and a dark olive ground sinks back behind the whole arrangement. A dining room or kitchen suits it well, where cut garden flowers and market vegetables share the same table as a matter of course.
