Still Life with Peaches

Six peaches rest against a dark ground, their skins flushed from green-gold into bruised rose where the light falls. Octav Bancila builds the fruit up in thick, deliberate strokes of ochre and vermilion, each one carrying its own small weight of shadow. A folded cloth anchors the arrangement, its creases catching grey daylight. The peach fuzz reads almost tactile, painted with dry-brush flicks that break the smooth color into texture. One fruit has split slightly at the seam, and the painter does not flinch from it. This kind of still life belongs in a dining room or a kitchen where morning sun moves slowly across the wall, close to wood tables and plain ceramics.
