Still Life with Gourd

A swollen gourd dominates the table, its skin mottled amber and green where the light catches it. Stefan Popescu sets the fruit close to the picture plane, almost crowding the viewer. Around it, the arrangement is spare. A dark pitcher leans at an angle, its glaze swallowing light. Cloth folds in dull cream beneath the gourd, brushwork thick and visible, the background pressed down to a deep, unsteady umber. Hints of ochre flicker along the fruit ribs. The muted palette and heavy shadows suit a kitchen nook, a pantry shelf wall, or a dining corner that favors quiet, earthbound still life painting.
