Still Life with Chrysanthemums

A full bouquet of chrysanthemums fills the picture, blooms layered in cream, ochre and faded rose above a dark tabletop. Nikolay Bogdanov-Belsky gives the flowers real weight, petals thick with paint and shadowed at their folds. The vase sits off center, its glaze catching a slant of light, while leaves spill low toward the table edge. Behind them the ground stays deep and warm, so every pale head of the bouquet pushes forward. Brushwork is loose in the stems, tighter where each petal turns. Strong choice for a dining room or a hallway that needs a settled, autumnal note.
