Still Life. Tray and Flowers

Garden roses and poppies crowd a broad metal tray, petals loosening over the edge. Pyotr Konchalovsky built the still life in thick, confident strokes, treating flowers almost as sculpture. Cobalt, crimson, and butter yellow press forward from a darkened ground, leaves dragged in heavy greens, the polished rim catching one clean highlight. Paint sits high enough that each petal holds a ridge, while the patterned cloth below stays flat and quiet. A country kitchen, a breakfast room, a dining room in morning light: wherever meals and cut blooms share a table, the picture rewards the long look.
