Peony heads press toward the light, petals shading from deep pink to pale cream along every frilled edge. Pyotr Konchalovsky built Still Life. Peonies at the window around cut flowers hungry for the garden they came from. Thick impasto stacks each cupped bloom, shadow pooling in the folds, while cool leaves and drooping stems anchor the bunch in a squat glass jar. Greenery blurs beyond the panes, and a dark sill cuts one firm horizontal underneath. A sunlit breakfast room or reading nook suits it best, anywhere morning glare can play across all that rose against green.
